Find Balance

Counselling Relationship Orlando

Counselling Relationship Orlando and what does a well balanced, healthy relationship look like? I bet we could all say that we know what an unhealthy relationship looks like. Yelling, blaming, pointing fingers, becoming angry and defensive and on and on. Why do we seek so hard to have a relationship and then when we are in one it quickly turns into a battlefield.

The following are reasons why we find ourselves caught in the Drama triangle. See if you can identify yourself with any of the following characteristics.

1. We refuse to take the blame for something we did not do.

Instead of trying to understand why our partner is accusing us for something we instead become quickly defensive and fire back nasty comments in an attempt to hurt one another.

2. It is hard to admit that you are wrong and must always be right.

No matter what the topic, you find that your always trying to over explain your side of the story or the way you see reality. The only problem with this is that we think our reality is the only right one. We try to impose our view points onto each other.

3.Relationships today are quick to give up when our expectations are not met.

We tell each other that our partner is the reason for our unhappiness, anxiety and feelings of disconnect. We refuse to look at our role in the situation.

4. Both are wanting to be seen, heard and validated.

We bring in baggage from our childhood and past relationships expecting our partner to validate, listen to us and see us. The only problem is that we don’t realize they very well may be, but what we are really wanting is to be right.

Does this sound familiar? Why do we say that we want to be with someone when we are so unwilling to look at the issue from another set of eyes or from their perspective? Isn’t that what love is? Compassion, understanding, patience and the ability to allow our partner to be the person they were when we met them?

We are always conditioned as humans to fear change and so when we feel the slightest bit of change we instantly seek to control the outside environment. The only problem with this is that nothing and nobody ever agreed that we have to do it your way.

You are the one left with resentments and frustration. Depression sets in because what you thought the relationship should look like is not turning out that way. Let’s all at least be honest and say that we have not reached the level of saint hood. Conditional love is what we bring into relationships because that is how we were raised.
