Major depressive disorder is a mental health illness that affects your thoughts, mind and body. It interferes significantly with your day to day life, functioning. It creates tremendous pain for you and your partner, family and loved ones.

Depression is not a sign that you are weak. Depression isn’t something you can use willpower to push away. Treatment is necessary. The symptoms last for days, weeks even years. Most who experience this form of depression do get better and see a huge improvement. The catch is that you need help getting out of the hole. To be properly diagnosed, the following criteria must be met:

Symptoms must last approximately 2 weeks or longer. Feeling depressed most days if not every day.

  • A decrease in interest in the hobbies or things you found pleasure in.
  • Loss or gain of weight. Little to no appetite or inability to stop eating.

  • You find your unable to remain focused and make clear decisions.
  • Suicidal thoughts or wanting to not be here any longer.
