Seek The Help You Need Today

Orlando Drug counseling directly addresses the symptoms related to drug addiction, it’s areas of impaired functioning and assist in helping with ongoing support in sobriety. This is an approach to drug counseling that is time limited and places its focus on behavioral changes. It pulls from the 12-steps of AA principles as well as blends a holistic (Mind, Body, Spirit) approach.

Drug Counseling has the main goal of helping clients to achieve and maintain sobriety (abstinence) from all addictive drugs and addictive behaviors. A secondary goal is to assist in helping as a life coach to guide and work with the client in building back his or her life. A life that has more than likely affected and impacted the client in a negative way. Many are hurt along the process. Counseling utilizes not only individual therapy but couples and family counseling as needed.

How Does It Work?

Orlando Drug counseling seeks to first help the client to recognize that a problem truly does exist. That their irrational thoughts are driving the addiction. Once a client is no longer in denial or minimizing their use, real teaching can be done. The client will be encouraged to maintain abstinence and to work along side me in developing a set of achievable goals that will be set forth in a treatment plan. The Client and therapist together will set target dates and goals that seem very realistic and easy to meet once starting out. Tools used are CBT, psycho-social skills as well as spirituality and the development of creating a relationship with others who are healthy and thriving in their sobriety.

How Therapy is Beneficial

My job as your therapist will help you perform the behavioral tasks listed below.

  • Teach clients what addiction is and how it is progressive and terminal if left untreated. Here we explore the overall understanding of the disease model for addiction and how one becomes addicted to certain drugs.
  • Discuss the necessary tools for recovery. What has been shown to work and why. We will explore together different models and approaches to assist in your recovery. This is not a one size fits all model.
  • I am here to cheer you on and to encourage, motivate and support you in reaching and maintaining your goals.
  • I will help to monitor your abstinence by setting up random drug screens to help hold you accountable.
  • It is my job to help you with addressing the underlying issues that are driving the addiction. Co-Occurring disorders are mental health issues that often many clients struggling with drug addiction are also suffering from. These could be a multitude of issues (depression, abuse, trauma, anxiety, OCD) to name a few.
  • Help to bridge the communication and broken ties with loved ones. I am very hands on and feel that the family and or spouse and children need their own form of recovery. It is important that all of those who have been directly affected by the devastation drug addiction can cause, seek help. Addiction is a family disease. All are affected.

Participation Beyond Sessions

Programs such as Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous are very valuable. They set up the support system and aid you in recovery. Here you will meet other like minded individuals who are working on the same common goal. To stay sober and live a fulfilling life. You will gain a network of friends. In the program you will learn that your story is not that original and you will no longer feel alone. You will start to take personal responsibility for your life.

These self-help community based programs meet daily. They follow a set structure which involves getting a sponsor (a person who helps to guide you through the programs 12 steps.) You address many of the topics discussed in therapy. Some of which include denial, anger, minimizing, understanding what toxic family members and friends are unhealthy. Discovering your character defects as well as developing a spiritual connection to a power greater than yourself.
